Most flat-faced dogs loathe having their faces messed with as nature is telling them to keep their already restricted breathing open and clear. So they struggle or try to pull away.
Some dogs may have been controlled tightly as a puppy and that triggers the struggle reflex.

If you can distract them long enough for it to melt in and get it's work done you will have done enough. Usually feeding dinner immediately after application is enough. Your dog may respond to a walk or being held and petted. Try something different and see. Also, warm product (see below) so it will be absorbed faster.
Occasionally someone lets us know they thought the product was denser to harder. They were expecting something fluffier or softer.
For our products to work, they have to be dense enough to stay on a dog. Plus, nose leather, paw pads and elbow calluses are thick, tougher tissue than our hands or faces (if you were thinking it would be like a face cream). We have enough beeswax in the recipe to also add more staying power. This makes it stiffer.
This one is an easy fix. Just use a spoon to dig a bit out and warm it in the palm of your hand. The products melt at body temperature, so rubbing it in your palm will warm it up and make it easier to apply.
