Remember when the idea of using aromatherapy or essential oils was kinda "woo-woo" or fringe? People often clumped aromatherapy in with reading tea leaves and divining your future by throwing bones and stones (not that there is anything wrong with reading tea leaves or throwing bones). Thankfully, those days are behind us and aromatherapy is fully, 100% mainstream.
Using essential oils to help balance your dog's emotional well-being is now available in an easy-to-apply, roll-on manner. In just minutes your dog can be relaxed and less frantic…naturally.
Since dogs can't read or Google (yet), there is no such thing as a placebo effect for dogs. They didn't read that Lavender is calming and immediately become Zen upon sniffing Lavender. Their buddy at the dog park didn't tell them Bergamot lessened stress and then your dog relaxed when sniffing it. Your dog didn't Google the canine best seller, Aging 4 Canines is EZ, and learn the benefits of Rosemary. Nope, we can trust that it works when we SEE the results with our own dogs before our eyes.
Of course you cannot dash past your dog, dab a dollop of Relax on them and run out the door and your dog be happy and chill. There is a wee bit more to it…but not much!
The best way for your dog to achieve maximum benefits is through a combination of breathing in the oils and by the oils also being absorbed through the skin. This is done by rolling the oils onto your dog and allowing them to sniff as desired.
BEAUTIFULLY BALANCED! Since our dogs have such a powerful sense of smell we do not want to overpower them with too strong of a fragrance or harm their delicate skin with essential oils that are too strong or "hot" as they are called. That is why we dilute the oils with jojoba oil, almond oil and grapeseed oil which also allow for quick absorption. And we use only enough to achieve results, not assault their sense of smell.
Most of the emotional balancing our dogs need stems from these core basic needs.
Our three essential oil blends build upon this cornerstone for our dogs emotional well-being. First is RELAX, which obviously relaxes and calms our dogs. This allows them to then FOCUS, when needed, and be involved in the activity at hand. And, of course, AGE WELL supports our dogs throughout their senior years.
RELAX Dog Aromatherapy was created to take the edge off your dog's stress without the need for powerful drugs or uncomfortable restraints.
ROLL-ON For maximum benefits, apply generously, rolling on in a circular motion, inside your dog's ears, on their groin/belly area or throat. Alternate application: roll onto your hands and pet your dog. Reapply frequently, as needed for your dog's relaxation.
SPRAY Spritz RELAX over your dog's body (don't spray in their face-dogs don't like that) from the ears back. You can also spray their bedding, crate, inside vehicle prior to travel...you get the idea.
USE TOGETHER Use the Spray for quick action and to help start the calming process. Then apply the Roll-On for long-lasting relaxation. RELAX Roll-On is more concentrated, but the Spray is so ez to use and together they magnify the benefits.
This next exercise is to be done when you first begin using RELAX. You are creating a connection for your dog between a feeling of safety and security and the smell of the RELAX. The smell of the RELAX then becomes a “shortcut” that calms your dog more quickly.
How to create the initial shortcut to calm for your dog
These few minutes begin to create a connection between the scent of the Relax and a safe and secure feeling for your dog.
When a stressful event occurs (prior to it if possible) take a deep breath, and calm yourself first! THEN roll the Relax on your dog, as you did in this initial connection. Calmly and gently tell them all is good.
Here comes the hard part. Try not rush to that energy of “Oh, you poor pitiful dog, scared by the thunderstorm.” Reassure your dog without buying into their panic.
If we reassure them too much, they often feel as if they are being rewarded for BEING afraid!
You can use on yourself, roll it on your wrist and/or neck (pulse points), to get the maximum effect. Your dog anxiety treatment can be of immense help to you also!
Reapply as needed.
RELAX reassures your frightened dog using our blend of the following classic calming oils in a carrier of organic jojoba oil, grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil (roll-on) or distilled water and emulsifier (spray).
TIP! RELAX is the same calming blend inside, the different dogs on the labels are just for fun. Choose any dog you like.
A bittersweet part of sharing our lives with dogs is that they don't live as long as we do. A dog can have a long, full life in a fraction of the time a person has on this earth. Knowing this does not make it any easier as we watch our dearest friend age.
Many dogs, just like people, begin to show forgetfulness or a lack awareness of their surroundings as they age. Some may become frightened or disoriented for no discernible reason.
We had a Frenchie, Joker, who as he got older would forget where he was going. He would start walking across the living room and stop and just stand there. Steve or I would touch him gently on his shoulder and call his name. He would shake his head and look up and we could feel him coming back into the moment.
AGE WELL supports and assists your senior dog as they progress through the stages of aging into their final transition.
For maximum benefits, apply generously, rolling on in a circular motion, inside your dog's ears, on their groin/belly area or throat. Alternate application: roll onto your hands and pet your dog. Reapply as needed throughout the day to support your dog during senior moments.
Special Note: As your dog begins their transition from this life, use AGE WELL as a way of thanking them for being a part of your life. One gift we can give our dogs is to tell them before they pass on what an important part of your life they have been.
More info on ways to use this oil for your dog's passing HERE.
My husband always tells our dogs it is ok for them to pass on when they are ready, that we will miss them, but we will see them again soon. He says they can pass more peacefully that way, knowing we support them.
Though when my dog, Money (he is the logo dog) passed I couldn't tell him it was ok, I was afraid he would know I was lying and to this day I feel guilty I did not help make his passing easier, as he struggled and fought against death at the end. Yes, you probably guessed that I am crying my way through typing this part. Thank you for hanging in there with me.
The following oils nurture your dog in their aging process. The senior dog needs several levels of support and the layers of oils offer the following emotional balancing. AGE WELL helps your senior dog to relax and feel calmer, while encouraging them to stay focused and in the moment, as it lifts their mood and balances the ragged edges.
Is your dog the proverbial tasmanian devil? Running back and forth, bouncing around, picking up one toy only to immediately drop it and grab another toy? Then in a flash, he has forgotten the toys and has a water bottle that he is making that annoying crackling noise with?
This high energy type of dog can be fun to live with when you want some entertainment, but a handful when you are at training class, are on a walk or are venturing into the show ring.
For this wound-tight, energy galore, attention deficit dogs we offer FOCUS. I'll admit, my face was red as I wrote that description, as I am the human version. This FOCUS blend is one I have used personally for years and been pleased with the results.
Use prior to any class or activity where you want your dog to pay attention to you. FOCUS amps up concentration and increases attention span.
For maximum benefits, apply generously, rolling on in a circular motion, inside your dog's ears, on their groin/belly area or throat. Alternate application: roll onto your hands and pet your dog. Reapply as needed throughout the event or activity requiring their focus to promote concentration.
FOCUS fuses the following essential oils into mental alertness power in a carrier of organic jojoba oil, grapeseed oil and sweet almond oil (roll-on) and distilled water and emulsifier (spray).
