SHETLAND SHEEPDOG NOSE BUTTER

Shetland Sheepdog has dry nose

SHETLAND SHEEPDOG SOOTHING NOSE BUTTER® ALLEVIATES YOUR SHELTIES NOSE DRYNESS…NATURALLY!

Shetland Sheepdogs are elegant, beautiful dogs. Their loving, gentle temperament has made them a popular family dog and their intelligence has them at the top of the class in obedience.

Your Sheltie's  dry nose may be an overall dull, dry nose to a more extreme version in which nose tissue grows out of control over the nose in chunks or layers. No worries though, NOSE BUTTER® works on all levels of Shetland Sheepdog dry nose issues. PLUS, Sheltie's may also suffer from Collie Nose, a condition that obviously affects their Collie cousins.

COLLIE NOSE AND YOUR SHELTIE

Collie nose, which is officially called discoid lupus erythematosus, affects Collies, Shelties, and other collie-types. This inflammatory condition is believed to have a somewhat genetic component, which means the breed type has a predisposition toward it.

There are a lot of approaches to controlling the symptoms and while NOSE BUTTER® will nourish and soothe your Sheltie’s nose, we do not offer it as a cure to Collie Nose. Nothing will CURE Collie Nose, as it is a condition, but the ugly nose aspects CAN be controlled with NOSE BUTTER®.

WHY A MOIST NOSE IS A BIG DEAL TO YOUR SHETLAND SHEEPDOG

Your Sheltie may never herd a goose, duck or flock or sheep. They may never even SEE a sheep, duck or goose. But that doesn’t mean the genetic push to herd creatures is not there. For hundreds of years the Shetland Sheepdog has been bred to work at their master’s side, gathering wandering sheep, ducks, geese, or whatever needed herding. The Sheltie used their super keen noses to sniff out sheep hidden in a thicket or behind a tree. And of course, their would keep their noses in the air for a whiff of any predator or intruder.

Your Sheltie is innately hardwired to keep an eye on those under her care. Has your Sheltie ever herded kids, other dogs or YOU?  Bear with me, this story does have a point…your Sheltie sniffs the air to get the info she needs to keep up with her flock (flock of whatever is irrelevant).

If her nose is dry, crusty or a bit rough, she cannot capture all the scent particles floating by in the air. She will lick her nose and sniff and then lick again, as she tries to moisten that pesky dry nose. A moist nose grabs and holds the scent particles with the desired info. This info gives your dog the tools needed to do the job for which she has been bred for centuries, even if no sheep are involved.

Having all the info she needs at her disposal allows her to relax, confident she has what she needs to get the job done. Actually, having a moist nose takes a lot of stress off your dog! So NOSE BUTTER® not only helps your dog’s nose look and feel better it also allows them to relax and be more confident.

NASAL HYPERKERATOSIS INFO

NASAL HYPERKERATOSIS AKA CRUSTY CRUD, BARNACLE NOSE

Is your dog’s nose EXTREMELY dry? Does it look like barnacles are growing on it? Are there layers or chunks of crust that crack and bleed? If your dog’s nose could be described as  extremely dry, or looks like the BEFORE noses in the image above, it may be Nasal Hyperkeratosis. Rest assured, it is not caused by diet, genetics, playing in the dirt or anything you can control.

Nasodigital or Nasal Hyperkeratosis is an idiopathic condition, which means unknown cause ¯\(°_o)/¯ that is marked by the excessive formulation of nose crust that vets call keratin, (vet-speak for protein). It actually IS layers of skin tissue that has grown wild over on the nose. This condition isn't life-threatening and most veterinarians consider Nasal Hyperkeratosis cosmetic. But there are medical, cosmetic and mental health reasons that this dry nose condition can affect your dog's well being. It has to be uncomfortable for your dog. Your dog cannot breathe as easily. It’s unattractive, of course.

Most importantly, your dog is not getting the scents and smells they ned to feel secure and confident. A healthy moist nose snags good smells that float by and provide your dog with info. A dry nose is not going to capture the info packed smells. This can lead to frustration and a lack of self confidence. Your dog knows info is out there, but he cannot get it.
