Does Your Newfoundland Dog Ever Get Hot Spots? Brush Abrasions or Irritations?
The Newfoundland has always been one of those rock-solid breeds. They seem to intuitively KNOW when we are doing something to help them feel better. Gentle and understanding is part of the very core of their nature.
Boo Boo Butter Quells Your Newfie's Minor Skin Annoyances
But that glorious thick coat, while great for keeping them insulated, can hide a host of issues; hot spots, irritations, brush irritations, and more. Newfoundland Boo Boo Butter is the perfect herbal balm for all those non-emergency skin irritations. Many years ago we had a lovely Newfie, Deuce, who could create a hot spot in below 30 seconds. He was one of the reasons we created Boo Boo Butter!

Boo Boo Butter Usage Tips+
DAB! DISTRACT! DONE!
Our #1 Best Tip! Warm product before using for faster absorption. Stick tin or tube in pocket or rub in palm before application.
DABon clean affected area
DISTRACT to keep them from licking it off
DONE Then REPEAT 2-3x daily for 1-3 days or until area improves
Use as needed for follow-up
Non-toxic, no active ingredients & no harm if licked
The reason for so much info on distracting your dog is so the product will be absorbed and get its work done. It's non-toxic, of course, and causes no harm if ingested, but it needs to soak in to be effective.
Give treats before, during and after application, if needed
Petting and cuddling can be the best distraction-works for me
Feed an especially yummy dinner right after application
Throw a ball or go for a walk afterward
You don’t have to rub it in PERFECTLY, as the product starts to melt at body temperature
Catch ‘em napping. Dab the product on while they sleep - sneaky
Tag team ‘em. Have one person be the treat giver while you are the dabber
Allow your big dog to stand, rather than making them lie down, if that is more comfortable for you both
Follow with something positive and your dog will soon associate Boo Boo Butter application with happy times
Think of it like cutting toenails or giving meds. Sometimes we have to do what’s in our dog's best interest.
Some dogs may be in discomfort if they have chewed, scratched or gnawed at a sore spot. They may be extra protective or wary of this area.
Many dogs just do not like being controlled tightly and will try to get away. It’s not that they hate Boo Boo Butter (ouch-we hope not), but they do not like being restrained tightly.
Dogs have flight or fight as a means of protecting themselves. Taking those two best options away leaves them with making application difficult.
Some breeds like to be in charge and will not accept being held tightly. Fast application is key with those personality types.
Your big dogs know they can overpower you, but most of the time they will submit to being attended to with grace and dignity.
Boo Boo Butter is that ideal product for your dog's skin issue that needs attention, but is not an emergency.
No artificial ingredients, no synthetics, no petroleum by-products, nothing you cannot pronounce, just good stuff to support your dog's healing process.
Boo Boo Butter is an excellent alternative to antibiotic creams/balms, as we've seen so many antibiotic resistant issues around over-usage, in people and pets.
Plus, it just works. Every so often one of us (or a pet) will have something skin-related that needs help and in unision we shout, "Did you try Boo Boo Butter?"
Boo Boo Butter with a Pug label is the same recipe/product as Boo Boo Butter with a Portguese Water Dog on the label.
The labels celebrate how diverse our dog breeds are. Plus, it allows you to customize the product with your dog's breed.
Isn't it mind-blowing that in a couple of thousand years or so ago humankind tweaked the DNA of a Wolf into a Pug's ancestor?
Our wish is for you to enjoy having your dog's breed, or a breed you love, on the label and smile.
Our big dogs can get into more than their fair share of...situations. If they are excited and adrenalin is pumping, they may not even realize they have a big old scratch or rubbed a raw patch trying to dig under something.
Plus, big double or thick coated dogs have a lot to brush! They can look great one day and then just like that, they are a matted to the bone hot mess!
If you can catch a little spot early you can prevent a hot mess later. Note: I have two Great Pyrenees/Leonmberger cross girls and we're in far northern MN, so they have DENSE coats. We have to check them often to be sure of any issues. Of course, they're worth it.
Boo Boo Butter works for those scrapes and scratches that need attention, but not panic mode. Of course, Boo Boo Butter is
My great pyreneese has had skin problems during the summer but this boo boo butter really helps to make his belly nice and pink again! It's all natural ingredients so I don't have to worry about him licking it off. I love boo boo butter!
My Jack Chi mix had red spots that would not go away, Boo Boo Butter saved the day! The vet gave him steriods etc but that did nothing. This stuff works great!!
I use Boo Boo Butter on my Chinese Cresteds after their shave. It sooths their skin and makes it sliky smooth.
Is Miracle cure Overused?
In this case, probably not. Murad has extreme anxiety, and also hates cats, we have 2 roommates and 3 cats, so lots of triggers. I bought this because frankly it reminded me of the Watkins medicine I used on my pets years ago. Turns out this is even better. It keeps his skin soft and helps to heal the inflammation from him scratching literally overnight. I rub it into his skin before bed, put him in his pajamas, and when we wake up in the morning, all the red marks and flaking skin are gone. (also it works amazingly on humans, as my hands haven't been this soft since I was a kid)
Miracle balm for my pups elbows!
I have a gsp English lab mix (95lbs). When she gets boarded or does not have access to her bed she raw spots on her elbows. The elbow butter helps to heal them up without her developing calluses! This is the second time I have bought the elbow butter and first time I have order the boo boo butter. It will not be my last!
Now that is an interesting combination - GSP and English Lab. She must be a very regal dog indeed! We're delighted the Elbow and Boo Boo Butter have worked so well for your girl. Those calluses can be tenacious if they do get that far. Glad you caught it early. Thank you again! Blissfully, Kathy
Like so many other pei owners, the skin is challenging to maintain or at least I thought. After countless trial and error approaches, I decided to try shar pei boo boo butter to help with dry itchy skin. Bazinga!!!....this product is incredible. My pei Thor is in a better place as both the itching and constant scratching went from a 9 to a near 1. Love this product and will definitely purchase more of the same line that includes bath wash. Thank you to the creative minds at Blissful Dog.
We love the Boo boo butter. It is helping our dog heal from over scratching from allergies. This is awesome stuff
Thank you, thank you for letting us know! It is so frustrating to listen to or watch our dogs lick and chew! We're so happy your Malinois got relief from the Boo Boo Butter! Blissfully, Kathy
Your paw butter is amazing. We have 2 French Mastiff’s snd they tend to get sores in between their toes but this relieves them and it is really an awesome product,
Thank you, thank you! We have a soft spot for your breed here and it always puts extra pep in my step to know our products help make your and their lives a bit better! Our 6 yr old female Japanese chin has developed so bad allergies to something here in Virginia. We moved in 2018 from Alaska. So it's a big change for our 13 chin. Luckily most have no issues. Just our Girl Mayumi. Along with a regiment of shots and treatments from the Vet. She also gets regular grooming. The boo boo Butter has been so wonderful in helping to relieve severe itching ECT.. When we are in between shots. We have used to butter for so many things within our pack. We use at least 4 Blissful dog products on our pack. All the ones we've used are amazing. We love this company.
Thank you, thank you for letting us know how your Chin are doing with our products and especially Mayumi. I had the opposite, as we moved to northern MN from Texas, so I luckily got to see all of my dogs have better coats and any itchies. It is easy to forget climate can play a big part in something like our dog's comfort. Over the years (decades), I've had a lot of friends with Japanese Chin and gotten to know them. What a delightful breed, so sweet and loving. -Kathy PS - my apologies for such a delay in replying, ugh, I got behind....really behind.
This is my go to for not only my furbabies but myself
