PORTUGUESE WATER DOG HISTORICAL TIDBIT
The Portuguese Water Dog has a centuries old documented history. In 1297, yes 1297, a monk wrote of a sailor who was brought to shore by a dog who was described as "black coat of rough hair, cut to the first rib and with a tuft on the tip of his tail."
It is believed the Poodle, Kerry Blue Terrier, and Irish Water Spaniel all had some DNA to toss into the mix we know as the Portuguese Water Dog or PWD.
