The Bearded Collie hails from Scotland with an oral history that has little documentation. The early Scotch shepherds had no time for pedigrees, they had sheep to care for! What is known is that Polish herding dogs were brought over to help the Roman shepherds herd the sheep they brought with them in their conquests. There were a lot of dogs with beards/hairy faces herding sheep across Europe and many probably contributed a bit of DNA.
Called the Scotch Sheepdog, Mountain Collie, Highland Collie, or Hairy Mou’ed Collie, the Beardie was an integral part of many farms in Scotland.
