Springer Spaniels are loving companions, fabulous field dogs, and great sofa surfing buddies. Like many Spaniels, Springers can also be plagued by dry nose issues. Springer Spaniel nose problems can range from a bit of dryness to an extreme canine nose dryness condition, nasal hyperkeratosis, in which the nose is covered by layers of crusty tissue.
As you know, our dogs rely on their sense of smell for a larger percentage of their info than we do. A moist nose helps capture scent particles and sends the info to centers in our dog’s brain where it's used for decision making or stored. Nature tells dogs, especially those with a hunting heritage, to keep their nose moist and pliable.
