While your Basset may never run with a pack of 40 other Bassets baying at decibel 100 as they chase woodland creatures, but centuries of tracking IS hard-wired into their genetics. Bassets were specifically bred to lock in on a smell and follow it without hesitation. Their long ears flop, wave, and funnel the smells up from the earth into their noses. Their short, stocky legs keep them at perfect sniffing height...almost ground level. Now it's our job and responsibility to keep that nose in peak sniffing shape!
