Pekingese can claim an ancestry that goes back hundreds of years B.C. While there are no records, it is thought by canine historians that the Peke has its roots in a Maltese-type dog brought to China by Muslim sailors/traders. We're so grateful some long-ago trader grabbed a Peke to take with them on their trip to China!
