This hard-working retriever was bred for a very specific, niche purpose...to lure, or toll, ducks, geese, and other waterfowl toward the hunters. Not flush or herd or chase, but LURE them. That sounds so espionage-y! Maybe it brings up having to read For Whom the Bell Tolls in high school...
Many dogs in the retriever family have dry nose issues. Your Toller's nose may range from just a bit dry to extremely dry. Of course, your Toller counts on their nose to sniff out all the good info and a dry nose doesn't attract and grab the exciting smells that are floating by.
