Why the Westie is stark white. It is said that back in the 1800s Colonel Malcolm of Poltalloch was fox hunting and accidentally shot and killed one of his wheaten-colored Cairn Terriers. The colonel was crushed by this occurrence and swore to breed only white dogs to prevent his ever mistaking a dog for a fox again.
