Their sleek good looks and loving, velcro-dog personality makes them a favorite of those who have been lucky enough to get to know this breed. Plus, they are active enough to be involved in outdoor activities. Many an IG (or IGGY) can be seen jogging beside their fit (or trying to get fit) owners.
Over 2000 years ago tiny Greyhound-type dogs were believed to have lived in the Mediterranean area in what is today Greece. By the Middle Ages, the loving tiny Greyhounds were popular throughout southern Europe, especially Italy which led to their name.
Some canine historians believed they were bred to chase small game, such as rabbits, others believe they were solely bred as lapdogs. The Italian Greyhound was a favorite of the court artists and can be seen in many paintings from the Renaissance.
