The Gordon Setter is the biggest of several bird setter dogs from Scotland and Ireland. Setters were bred to hunt birds that hid in the brush, rather than attempt to fly away. The Setters did literally that...chased the birds and sat down in front of them. The hunters caught up and threw a net over where the dog indicated. That, to me, is the epitome of people devising a way to make life easier!
In a blaze of originality, Gordon Setters were first called... Back and Tan Setters. Thankfully, Alexander Gordon, the Fourth Duke of Gordon, was enamored by the breed and helped shape them into today's Gordon Setter. Not only did they get a much better name, but also bred them to be stronger, smarter, and with greatly increased stamina.
The Gordon Setter collection showcases products with Gordon Setter labels and products recommended for their health and well-being. Enjoy!
