It is easy to confuse the Field Spaniel with the multitude of other Spaniels. Field Spaniels also have a long, water-proof, single coat in several colors (Liver, Black, Liver & Tan, Black & Tan, Liver Roan, and Blue Roan) with Liver the most common color.
Field Spaniel Factoid: All Spaniels were called Field Spaniels in the UK for some time and the Field Spaniel as we know it was almost lost. Dedicated breeders revived the breed to its former looks and abilities in the 1960s. The Field Spaniel was admitted into AKC in 1984.
The Field Spaniel not only excelled as a flushing dog but also as a retrieving dog. The Field Spaniel originated in the United Kingdom during the 1800's when so many dog breeds were founded. Today's Field Spaniel is mostly used as a companion and exercise buddy.
