Back in the late 1700s and early 1800s the Bulldog, possibly the White English Terrier, and the Black-and-Tan-Terrier were used as the foundation of the breeds we know as the American Staffordshire Terrier, the Staffordshire Terrier, and the Bull Terrier.
In the mid-1800s American dog breeders brought a few of the early Staffordshire Terriers back with them from England. They bred for a considerably larger dog and by 1936 were recognized by the AKC as a separate breed from the Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
While the short, glossy coat of the AmStaff is easy to care for, they do need attention paid to skincare. Dogs with a lot of white need a brightening shampoo to look their best (Razzle Dazzle Dog Shampoo) and those with skin issues need a skincare plan (Bye Bye Boo Boo Collection) that helps relieve the itch and allow them to start healing.
