Shea butter is the main ingredient used in your dog’s balms. All of our butters build from the base of shea butter. Cold pressed oil from the nuts of the Shea tree, shea butter is known for its ability to moisturize skin and to help retain the elasticity of skin. Shea butter has also been known to help protect the skin against the damaging effects of the sun while repairing cellular degeneration. Our shea butter is refined and deodorized without the use of harsh chemicals, allowing the shea butter to keep its amazing healing properties. Shea butter has quickly become a go-to butter for the most opulent of balms and luxurious body pampering. The shea tree grows almost exclusively in Western Africa, where it is used as a food, cooking oil, beauty product and source of income. It takes approximately 15 years of growth before the tree begins to bear fruit.
COCOA SEED BUTTER
is an aromatic solid butter pressed from the roasted seeds of the Cacao tree. It softens at body temperature and adds a rich, creamy, thick consistency to our butters. There is no heavy chocolate smell or caffeine left in the butter we use, just a nutty goodness. Note: There are none of the active ingredient in dark chocolate in the Cocoa Seed Butter we use. So, no harm to your precious dog!
is best known for its ability to soften, soothe, and re-condition the skin. It made from raw almond kernels and exceptionally rich in fatty acids.
is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins A, D and E, avocados can provide skin with deep moisture. The avocado oil penetrates the skin but is also thick enough to serve as a protective barrier. There has been a lot of brouhaha about animals and avocados. Here is a thorough article by the people at AvoDerm on the safety of pets and avocados. We can assure you, the avocado oil we use is of the varieties deemed safe for all. "Avocado oil can help heal wounds, according to a 2013 study published in the journal Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The Brazilian researchers found that avocado oil is rich in oleic acid and contains essential fatty acids. "When used in pharmaceutical formulations for topical use, avocado oil can promote increased collagen synthesis and decreased numbers of inflammatory cells during the wound-healing process and may thus be considered a new option for treating skin wounds," the researchers wrote." is a well known healthy addition to all of our diets (canine and human). It also has many benefits when used on our skin (and our dog's skin). Olive oil plumps and moisturizes nose tissue with a combo of vitamin E and A. Dry, itchy skin is also often relieved by using olive oil. Of course, we add this wondrous oil liberally to all of the butters!
is a renowned general moisturizing oil and serves as a protective layer, helping to retain the moisture in your skin. It is great for inflamed and irritated skin, and those with skin sensitivities. For years I had hesitated to use Coconut Oil, maybe it was all those summers slathered in Hawaiian Tropics suntan oil that I am paying the price for now. But after testing it, I knew that it had to be added to the mix.
comes from certified organic Castor beans. It is a hard, shiny oil that acts as a “barrier agent and protective medium against harsh conditions and extremes.” Note: There is none of the properties of the ricin that has been in the news (and Breaking Bad). The process that makes it oil eliminates that possibility.
infusion is made from certified organic Comfrey leaves and root (Symphytum officinale) infused (steeped) in a base of certified organic Olive oil. Traditionally used for general wound healing, treatment of bruises and for skin cell growth. Comfrey grows throughout Europe, North America and western Asia. Its leaves are dark green and covered with short hairs. This wonderful ingredient has also come under fire in certain circles. We assure you the Comfrey we use is safe for all. It is an oil infusion made from Comfrey leaves that have been soaked in olive oil. There is less than 1% total of Comfrey in your dog's Paw Butter or Elbow Butter. There is no scientific way for your pet to eat enough of our product to cause damage. They would have to eat hundreds of pounds all at once.
Chamomile is relaxing, cleansing, moisturizing, soothing, calming, cooling, anti-inflammatory, and is well known for reducing calluses.
is a wonderful substance secreted by worker honeybees. Beeswax has a higher melting temperature, so it helps the various butters in the tubes keep their shape and ship bit better. The use of beeswax is what prevents us from having our products be vegan, BUT it is such a wonderful ingredient compared to the alternatives, I feel it is worth it.
is great for dry and damaged skin, skin inflammations, etc. It is an all around great addition to anything to do with skin or noses, paws or elbows. The plant has been used medicinally, in food, as a fabric dye, and cosmetics. This oil has been used for its anti-inflammatory properties as well as combating rough or scaly skin.
ST. JOHN’S WORT OIL
that we use is made from freshly gathered St. Johns Wort flowers and infused in organic Olive oil, with Vitamin E oil added. Used externally is is a valuable anti-inflammatory which can help speed the healing of wounds, bruises, bee stings, and mild burns. Just a good herbal oil to use! You will see this ingredient in many organic dog products, such as our Paw and Elbow Butters.
is a glorious oil and exploding in popularity now. The active substances, triterpenoids, in Argan Oil offer many protection benefits. These include tissue healing (scars), anti-inflammatory, sun-protective and disinfectant properties. The oil contains 80% unsaturated fatty acids. Back in the day argan oil was extracted from the nut after a goat ate the fruit. Yep, exactly what you are thinking! Thank goodness we don’t have to rely on goat poo for argan oil anymore.
has many benefits – both therapeutic and medicinal use. Neem Oil is anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. Used widely in creams, dental products, hair care products, and in gardens for natural pest control. Known for its ability to treat problematic skin conditions, we use Neem Oil in our BOO BOO BUTTER.
Jojoba is actually not an oil, but it is a liquid wax ester. Cold pressed from the Jojoba plant, it has fabulous moisturizing properties and is used extensively in the cosmetic industry.
GRAPE SEED OIL
is a light oil that is rich in vitamins and minerals which makes it a nourishing addition to any product, especially massage oils, intended for dry, damaged or irritated skin.
Safe For Your Dogs and Ours | Non-Toxic & No Active Ingredients
My very un-legally worded official disclaimer: If you Googled long enough you could find some histrionic website article about "fill in the blank with virtually anything" being bad for you, your dog, the environment and baby unicorns. It's the nature of the world we live in. We have worked long and hard to ensure all of our products are safe and will do no harm. There are NO active ingredients in any of our products. All of the ingredients we use are oils and butters, nothing that reacts in an active way. It WILL NOT hurt your dog if they lick some off or each the whole tin (but put it up, they don't need all those calories and fat). That said, of course there is the very slight possibility of an individual dog having an individual reaction to an individual ingredient. If your dog has any symptoms of irritation etc. after using any of our products, stop using them. * Note: We recently added Blissfully Clean Dogs Shampoos, Conditioners and Sprays to our line and those products are made by trusted experts in their fields, who are also personal friends.
