Like many of you probably did, I watched the news bits on the Black Friday Shopping with a mixture of horror, shame and relief. Horror that grown people act so crazy over a deal on a TV, shame that I love a good deal as much as the next person (especially on a ginormous smart TV and relief that I live too far from any stores to be tempted. My inbox was flooded with one GREAT DEAL after another and I can only imagine what tomorrow’s onslaught will hold. Hey, I plan to continue working hard and building The Blissful Dog even bigger and better. It is easy to get caught up in all the SEO, Social Media posting strategies and worrying about Google loving me or not and I do.
But this is also the time of the year to remember those who may be having a rough time of it. And for me, my thoughts turn to dogs in need. Dogs look at us with pure, unconditional love and they trust us to take care of them and keep them safe and well. It can get overwhelming thinking about all the dogs out there who need help. Dogs available for adoption flood our Facebook feeds, stories about puppy mill raids are in the news way too often and the horror stories of dogs suffering at the hands of people occur way too often. Personally, I begin to feel so helpless and overwhelmed, like anything I can do as one person would never be ENOUGH. But I can wrap my brain around helping one dog at a time.
Imagine this scenario…an older Pug named Oscar is dropped off at a shelter when his elderly owner’s bad health forces her into hospice care that does not allow pets. While he was adored, her declining health led to a bit of lapse in his day-in-day-out care and he looked bedraggled. He was chubby, with long toenails, his teeth badly needed a dental, and his nose was a dry, rough, crusty mess. Oscar was not the most appealing dog at the shelter and his future was bleak. But with a bath, his nails trimmed as much as possible and some NOSE BUTTER, Oscar looked and felt much better. The increased attention from visitors and staff perked him up even more and he began to recover his Pug-ness. In our story, Oscar is soon adopted and lives the rest of his life with a loving couple and their older Pug who is thrilled to have a buddy. To Oscar that tube of NOSE BUTTER was a VERY big deal!

By the way, ever since I got a testimonial from Jessica about her little English Toy Spaniel who was rescued from a puppy mill after nine years of a life I cannot fathom, I have had a little voice in the back of mind saying that we can do more.
So, I dedicate this promo to Dinah, the English Toy Spaniel who had the best second chance EVER. (click on the image to see her story full-size)SHOP HOLIDAY GOODIES

USPS POSTAL RATE HIKE 2016 It’s that time of the year again…United States Postal Service aka USPS postal rate hike time. This time it seems they did a big shuffle and restructure of rates in an attempt to stop the huge hit they took due to some complicated insurance stuff. I don’t consider myself overly […]
TAKING A CHANCE ON LOVE LATER IN LIFE ADOPTING AN OLDER DOG A customer called an order in the other day and as we began to chat (which is gonna happen if you call ME), she shared that her new dog was a 14-year old Lab cross who came from a neglectful and abusive situation. […]

THE BLISSFUL DOG HOLIDAY GIFT OPTIONS FOR NAUGHTY AND NICE DOGS Dog experts say our dogs are a reflection of US and our attitudes toward life. I suppose that is true, as my unruly heathens have no respect for authority AND they are messy! Even so, they will be appropriately spoiled on the 25th with […]
